La Bicocca is located in the easternmost part of the Apennines thrust belt. The stratigraphic sequence in the area is represented by highly deformed Tertiary flysch deposits that lay on siliciclastic deposits of Plio-Pleistocene age in unconformity on the Mesozoic carbonates of the Apulian carbonate platform.
These carbonates represent the main exploration target.
